The oil and gas sector is among the six core industries in Nepal and plays a major role in influencing decision making for all other sectors of the economy. The Government of Nepal has allowed 100 per cent foreign direct investment (FDI) in many segments of the sector, including natural gas, petroleum products, and refineries, among others. The petroleum industry mainly focuses on the global processes of exploration, extraction, refining, transporting (often by oil tankers and pipelines), and marketing petroleum products.
